In a major advancement for emergency care, the Punjab Institute of Neurosurgery (PINS) has introduced a new protocol to ensure that patients with spinal cord injuries receive surgical treatment within 24 hours of admission. This initiative aims to prevent permanent disability and deliver timely medical intervention.
According to the Executive Director of PINS, spinal trauma patients will no longer face delays in receiving critical surgeries. Under the updated system, surgical procedures will now be conducted on the same day patients are admitted, significantly improving outcomes for those suffering from spinal injuries.
Professor Asif Bashir, who leads the spinal trauma unit at PINS, confirmed that operating theaters have been made available 24/7 to support the initiative. He highlighted that early intervention not only reduces severe pain but also minimizes the risk of long-term neurological damage, offering spinal injury patients a better chance at recovery and mobility.
The introduction of this emergency surgical protocol marks a significant step forward in trauma care, aligning PINS with international standards in neurosurgical treatment.
