Pakistan’s Petroleum Division has once again revised fuel prices, cutting the rate of petrol while raising high-speed diesel, effective from Friday, October 23, 2026. Petrol will now sell at Rs377.71 per litre, down Rs1.60 from the previous rate of Rs379.31, while high-speed diesel (HSD) climbs to Rs391.75 per litre, up Rs1.64 from Rs390.11, according to a notification issued late Thursday and reported by PakTribune, Bloom Pakistan and Minute Mirror.

The two products are moving in opposite directions for the same cycle, which is not unusual under Pakistan’s fuel-pricing formula: petrol and diesel are benchmarked separately against international Platts-linked rates, freight premiums and other import costs, so a dip in one does not automatically mean the other follows. Techx.pk, citing the Petroleum Division, reported that the latest adjustment “reflect[s] shifting conditions in the global crude oil market as well as fluctuations in the Pakistani rupee exchange rate,” with softer international oil prices pulling petrol down even as diesel’s own benchmark and import costs pushed it higher. None of the sources reviewed cited a change in the petroleum levy or General Sales Tax as a driver of this particular revision.

The government continues to charge a significant share of the pump price in taxes: Minute Mirror reported that duties and levies currently add roughly Rs114 per litre to petrol and about Rs100 per litre to diesel, even as both fuels remain well below the record highs they touched in April 2026. This is the second fuel-price move PakDaily has tracked in a week, after petrol was cut to Rs381.14 per litre on October 20, underlining how frequently Islamabad has been adjusting rates in response to volatile global energy markets this month.

Fuel Previous Price (per litre) New Price, Oct 23 (per litre) Change
Petrol (Super) Rs379.31 Rs377.71 Down Rs1.60
High-Speed Diesel (HSD) Rs390.11 Rs391.75 Up Rs1.64

Petrol is the fuel of choice for the vast majority of Pakistan’s motorbikes and small cars, so today’s cut offers modest relief to commuters, while the rise in diesel — the fuel that powers trucks, buses, tractors and much of the freight network — tends to feed more directly into transport and food-supply costs over time. The Petroleum Division’s notification did not specify a date for the next review.
