Liver Transplant Liver Transplant

In a major milestone for the country’s healthcare sector, Pakistan has completed its first successful liver transplant for a patient with colon cancer that had spread to the liver.

The complex and life-saving surgery was performed at Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad, where a woman from Karachi, originally diagnosed with cancer in the lower colon, underwent the transplant after her cancer progressed to the liver.

In a first for Pakistan, surgeons removed her entire cancer-affected liver and replaced it with a segment of her husband’s liver, marking a significant advancement in cancer treatment and organ transplantation.

Doctors involved in the procedure confirmed that the woman’s liver had been severely compromised by cancer. Her husband donated the left lobe of his liver, allowing her to receive the transplant and ultimately recover.

Hospital sources have confirmed that the patient has made a full recovery and is now leading a healthy, cancer-free life.
